Housing Affordability

Montanans should not have to go broke just to buy a first home. Michael Black Wolf believes housing policy should work for local families and workers, not just outside investors and corporations.

Across Montana, housing costs have climbed out of reach for too many people. First-time buyers are being priced out, working families are struggling to stay in their communities, and corporate ownership is putting even more pressure on the market. Homes are increasingly being treated like investment vehicles instead of places where people can build a stable life.

Michael supports practical, common-sense solutions that help restore balance. That means keeping more homes available for Montanans, discouraging bulk ownership practices that distort the market, and supporting long-term community-based housing models.

A stronger housing policy should make it easier for people to live where they work, raise families where they grew up, and put down roots without being pushed aside by speculation.

Michael’s priorities include:

  • Limiting large-scale investor purchases of single-family homes to keep properties available for individual buyers
  • Imposing higher taxes on corporate-owned rental portfolios to discourage bulk ownership
  • Supporting community land trusts and nonprofit housing models
  • Creating stronger opportunities for first-time homeownership
